Workshop Description:

According to WHO: “Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”

But who determines what is a normal state of well being and what are the normal stressors of life?

Social norms and cultural expectations often defines:

  • What gets defined as a mental health issue
  • How the issue is understood
  • Which solutions to the issue are acceptable

Through the utilization of an Anti-Oppressive lens, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Polyvagal Theaory, this workshop with explore how those norms and expectations can create barriers and exacerbate the stigma around mental health. Along the way, we will debunk myths about mental health and explore ways to overcome the stigma and live a life that aligns with your values and purpose.
