Positive Thought Counsellor Nabeel Rahman, M.A., RSW spoke at TedxUnionville!
People of colour play many different roles and live on the intersection of multiple barriers. We have to navigate through imposed identities, expectations and stereotypes that create innumerable challenges. As such, this talk focused on overcoming those challenges through acknowledgement, empathy, self-determination, and action.
We are a Toronto based grassroots organization providing counselling services to enrich the lives of individuals and provide coping strategies in navigating the daily stresses of life.
Life can at times, be overwhelming. The reality is that at some point, we all will struggle. The challenges of our lived experiences, upbringing, financial constraints and relationships can get the better of us. Such experiences can make us feel helpless, hopeless and lost. For those struggling, it is not always easy to seek help.
The taboo of counselling and mental health across cultures presents a significant barrier...but it doesn't have to. We are at the forefront of advocating for change and breaking the stigma that prevents many of us from seeking the help that we need.
Here at Positive Thought, we recognize that our lives are multi-dimensional. We might be well integrated in some components of our life and struggle in other aspects. We take on a holistic approach and our counselling sessions are designed to assist individuals build resiliency and coping strategies.
We have experience working with youth and adults from various ethnic backgrounds who might be struggling with:

What we have learned from our struggles is that positive thinking is critical in addressing the barriers we experience. Collectively, we can make challenges become opportunities, barriers become stepping stones and turn hardships into ease. Let us assist you in empowering yourself to live a life of fulfillment and contentment. It is not easy...but is not impossible either!
